Claude Tutorial: A Practical Guide to Sign Up, Login, and Account Switching

Claude

Claude is a practical AI tool, and signing up, logging in, and switching accounts are the most common questions for beginners. This tutorial walks you through every step, from account creation to managing multiple accounts—simple, clear, and straight to the point.

Step‑by‑Step Guide to Registering a Claude Account

Go to the Claude website (claude.ai) and click the "Sign Up" button in the top‑right corner. Enter your email address (Gmail or Outlook recommended), set a strong password, and then click to create your account.

You’ll receive a verification email. Open it and click the link to activate your account. If you’re using a domestic email provider, the verification code may not arrive—try switching to an international email service instead.

Logging In and Basic Account Settings

After registration, return to the login page, enter your email and password, and you’ll enter the main interface. The first time you log in, you’ll see a few setup options, including agreeing to the terms and selecting your usage scenario—just check the ones that apply.

On your profile page, you can change your avatar and display name. These are only for display and don’t affect functionality. Billing and subscription details are managed in the "Plan" section of Settings; the free version requires no additional action.

Switching Accounts and Managing Multiple Accounts

Claude currently doesn’t support switching accounts directly within the app. To use a different account, you’ll need to log out first. Click your avatar in the bottom‑left corner, select "Log out," and then log in with another account.

If you need to manage multiple accounts at the same time (for example, one free account for daily use and a Pro account for work), we recommend using different browsers or private/incognito windows to keep each session active. You can also use your browser’s multi‑user feature, with each user logged into a separate Claude account—no interference between them.

Common Login Issues and Solutions

If you see an "Invalid credentials" error during login, it’s most likely a typo in your email or password—click "Forgot password" to reset it. Account lockouts usually happen after too many incorrect password attempts; wait 15 minutes and try again to unlock it.

If you’re not receiving the verification code, check your spam folder, or wait a few minutes and request a resend. If the problem persists, contact Claude support and provide your email address and the approximate time you registered.

Security Tips and Account Protection

Never share your login credentials with anyone you don’t trust. Claude’s official team will never ask for your password. Enabling two‑factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security—you can set it up in the "Security" section of Settings.

It’s also a good habit to change your password regularly, especially if you’re using multiple AI tools. If you receive any suspicious login notifications, change your password immediately and log out of all device sessions.
