Labour MP Jess Asato has filed a lawsuit against Elon Musk’s AI company xAI at the High Court in London, accusing the firm of privacy violations. She claims that someone used the Grok chatbot to generate a fake image of her wearing a bikini without her consent. Asato submitted the claim on Wednesday, citing misuse of private information under the Data Protection Act, and is seeking compensation from xAI.
Asato had publicly condemned the spread of deepfake pornographic content online in January. Shortly after, the fake images were reportedly created and shared using Grok. Asato said her lawsuit is not just about damages but aims to establish a legal precedent holding tech companies liable for design flaws in their AI systems. “No one can take off my clothes on the street and put a bikini on me. I don’t think anyone should be able to do that to me online—though the feeling isn’t exactly the same, it’s very similar,” she stated.
