New to Spotify? The registration process and account linking can be confusing. This guide walks you through creating a Spotify account on both mobile and desktop, then shows you how to connect devices and switch between profiles—so you can start streaming from the global music library right away.

Mobile Registration & Login Steps

Open the Spotify app and tap “Sign Up.” Enter your email or phone number, then set a password. Using a primary email address is recommended to avoid trouble when recovering your account. Check the box to agree to the terms of service, then enter the verification code sent to your email or phone to activate your account. If you forget your password later, tap “Forgot Password” to reset it via email.

Right after your first login, it's a good idea to link your Google or Facebook account for quick one-tap sign-ins later. If you see a “region not available” message, try switching your network environment or using the international version of the app.

Desktop Registration & Multi-Account Switching

Visit the Spotify website and click “Sign Up”—the process is the same as on mobile. For best results, use Chrome or Edge to avoid compatibility issues. After registration, turn on “Remember Me” in settings so you don’t have to log in again each time.

To switch accounts, click your profile picture in the bottom-right corner, go to “Account” > “Log Out,” then enter the other account details. Family plan users can manage members in settings to keep recommendations separate and avoid playlist confusion.

Account Linking & Device Sync Tips

Before connecting a device, make sure both are on the same Wi-Fi network and Bluetooth is turned on. In the Spotify mobile app, tap “Connect to a Device” and select the speaker or TV you want to link. The first time, you’ll need to enter a pairing code; after that, it connects automatically. If you experience sync lag, try restarting your router or reinstalling the app.

The Family plan supports up to six independent accounts, each with its own playlists. To set it up, the main account holder adds member email addresses on the web; once they accept the invitation, they can enjoy shared Premium benefits.

Common Login Issues & Fixes

If you see a “network error” during login, it’s often a proxy or VPN issue—try disabling the accelerator or switching to a different node. If your account gets locked, visit the “Account Recovery” page on the official site and use your registered email to request an unlock. Also, entering the wrong password multiple times triggers a security lockout; wait 15 minutes before trying again.

When linking a third-party account fails, check whether that platform is already connected to another Spotify profile, then unlink it and retry. It’s a good idea to update your password regularly to prevent unauthorized access.
