OpenClaw FAQ: Registration, Account Linking & Common Error Codes Explained

6/16/2026
OpenClaw

OpenClaw is a practical tool, but many users encounter issues with account registration, third-party linking, and various error codes. This FAQ compiles the most frequent operational hurdles and error messages to help you quickly resolve problems like slow loading, login failures, and more—no need to dig through forums for answers.

1. Registration & Account Linking FAQs

When registering for OpenClaw, some users report not receiving the verification email. First, check your spam folder. If it's still missing, try switching to a different email provider (e.g., Gmail or Outlook) and attempt again. When linking third-party accounts (e.g., Google or GitHub), if you see an "Authorization Failed" error, it's usually due to browser cache conflicts. Clear your cookies and re-authorize to resolve the issue.

Switching accounts is straightforward: go to Settings, click "Log Out," and then log in with the new account. Note that if you previously linked a social account, you must unlink it before logging out—otherwise, the next login might automatically redirect to the old account. It's recommended to clear your browser cache before each switch to avoid session residue confusion.

2. Login & Request Error Troubleshooting

If you encounter a "500 Internal Server Error" during login, it's usually a temporary server fluctuation. Wait 5 minutes and retry. If you repeatedly see "404 Not Found," double-check that the link address is complete, paying special attention to any typos in the OpenClaw API endpoint. For "Request Timeout" errors, the issue is likely with your local network or proxy configuration. Try disabling your VPN or switching nodes.

Some users also report that the login button keeps spinning after clicking. In this case, first check the browser console for cross-origin errors. If present, you'll need to add OpenClaw to the whitelist. If you don't have technical experience, simply switching to Chrome's Incognito mode is often the most effective fix.

3. Account Lockouts & Security Settings

Entering the wrong password multiple times will temporarily lock your OpenClaw account. The lock typically lasts 15 minutes. Do not keep trying during this period, as it will extend the lockout time. If you're sure your password is correct but you're still locked out, use the "Forgot Password" process to reset your credentials, and enable two-factor authentication for added security.

When binding a phone number, if you don't receive the verification code, first confirm that you've added the country code (for China, it's +86). Some virtual carrier numbers may be blocked, so consider using a number from a major carrier. Also, avoid sending verification codes too frequently in a short period—if you trigger the risk control, you'll need to contact customer support to unblock it.

Final reminder: OpenClaw sessions are valid for 24 hours by default. If you're using a public device, be sure to manually clear the browser's local storage after logging out to prevent account exposure.
