Many users find that clicking the invite link for a Spotify Family Plan returns an "invalid link" or "link expired" error. This article covers the most common reasons behind the issue and provides step-by-step troubleshooting tips to help you resolve it quickly.
Invite Link Expired or Invalid
The invite link generated by the Spotify Family Plan admin usually expires within 48 hours. After that, the link becomes invalid, and recipients will see an error when they click it. If the admin needs to resend an invite, they should first remove the old expired link and then generate a new one to share with the member.
Additionally, if the admin changes the family address or removes a member midway, the old link also stops working immediately. It's a good practice to regenerate a fresh invite link from "Account > Manage Your Family" before each new invitation.
Member's Location Doesn't Match
Spotify Family Plan requires all members to share the same home address as the admin. If the recipient's Spotify account is registered in a different region or they're using a VPN that shows a different IP address from the admin's, the system will reject the join request. To fix this, make sure all members' Spotify account region settings match the admin's, and turn off any VPN before accepting the invite.
If a member's account is already registered in another region, they can cancel the existing account and create a new one using an IP address from the admin's region before accepting the invite. Note that a Family Plan can have up to six members, and the home address can only be changed once per year.
Invite Link Used or Already Activated
Sometimes the admin sends the same link to multiple people. Once one person uses it, the link becomes "already used" and others will see an error. In this case, the admin needs to generate a unique link for each member and send them individually. Also, if a member has previously left the Family Plan, they must use a new link to rejoin—old links cannot be reused.
