Gemini for macOS Update: New Icon & Double Command Key Screenshot

Google has rolled out the latest update to the Gemini app on macOS, bringing two practical changes: a redesigned app icon and a new screenshot shortcut. According to 9to5Google, the updated app container now features a white background, matching the iOS and Android versions, while the Gemini star logo has been enlarged for a more prominent look. This design tweak is expected to align with the upcoming Gemini Spark and new voice features planned for release this summer.

On the functionality side, the most notable addition is the screenshot shortcut. Google revealed last week that users can simply press two Command (⌘) keys on their keyboard to "seamlessly attach the current active window to a chat." This eliminates the need for manual screenshots, similar to the interaction logic of the Gemini floating window on Android, making it much easier to share on-screen content during conversations.

This update continues Google's strategy of deeply integrating AI assistants into the desktop experience. The double-Command-key screenshot feature means Mac users can quickly share their current working window with Gemini without needing additional drag-and-drop or screenshot software—especially handy for scenarios that require frequent context-based queries. As a more complete feature set arrives this summer, the macOS version of Gemini is gradually catching up to the mobile experience.
