Pricing & Billing Model

ChatGPT Plus Personal is priced at a flat $20 per month for individual use, with no team collaboration or account management features. The Team plan charges per user — $25 per user per month (annual billing) or $30 per user per month (monthly billing), with a minimum of two seats. It is designed for small to medium teams that need centralized account control.

From a long-term cost perspective, the Personal plan is ideal for frequent solo users who don't need shared workspaces. The Team plan has a slightly higher per-user cost, but it includes a dedicated workspace and admin console, making its value proposition stronger in a team setting.

Core Feature Differences

Both plans offer the GPT-4o model, web search, DALL·E image generation, and other core capabilities. However, the Team plan provides higher priority API call quotas and an extended context window of 128K (vs. 32K on Personal), giving it a clear edge when handling long documents or complex code. Additionally, the Team plan's exclusive "Workspace" feature allows members to share chat history, prompt templates, and custom instructions. Admins also get a usage analytics dashboard to monitor team activity.

The Personal plan, on the other hand, focuses on lightweight use and privacy — all data belongs solely to the user, with no cross-account interference. The plugin store and GPTs are available in both plans, but Team admins can centrally manage which third-party plugins are allowed, helping prevent sensitive data leaks.

Use Cases & Purchasing Advice

If you are an independent developer, freelancer, or a student who uses AI heavily on a daily basis, the Personal plan fully meets your needs. The $20/month subscription is also the most cost-effective option. If you manage a small team of 3–10 people — such as a development squad, content department, or research group — the Team plan’s collaboration features can significantly boost productivity, from unified prompt libraries to shared chat history analysis.

Note that the Team plan does not offer a family-sharing option. If you need to share an account among family members, it's best to have each person subscribe individually or wait for a potential family plan from OpenAI in the future. In short, base your decision on the actual team size and collaboration needs to avoid paying for features you won't use.
