Google has pushed the latest version of the Gemini app to macOS devices today, introducing two key visual and functional improvements. First, the app icon has been refreshed: the previously dark background has been replaced with a pure white container, aligning the look with the iOS, Android, and download page versions. The Gemini star logo is also slightly larger, giving the overall icon a brighter and more cohesive appearance. Second, Google revealed a new hotkey feature last week—users can now press both Command keys on the keyboard simultaneously to capture the current active window and seamlessly attach it to a Gemini chat conversation, removing the need for manual screenshots. This offers an experience similar to the Gemini floating window on Android.

For users who prefer custom shortcuts, the app settings provide detailed configuration options: open Gemini, click the gear icon in the top-right corner, select "Features" from the left sidebar, scroll to "Screenshot Capture," toggle on "Enable Hotkey", and set your preferred combination (e.g., Command+Shift+G). After that, pressing the hotkey lets you drag and release to select any area on the screen, and the screenshot is automatically added to your current session. This feature is especially useful for quickly sharing on-screen information when you need to ask questions or analyze content.

Notably, Google plans to roll out this icon update gradually this summer alongside Gemini Spark and new voice features, further aligning the macOS experience with its mobile counterparts. Based on the current update direction, Google is actively working to turn Gemini into a cross-platform high-productivity tool. The addition of a screenshot shortcut makes desktop interactions with the AI assistant more natural and fluid—a practical, efficiency-boosting improvement for users who frequently rely on visual information in their workflows.
