As the world's most popular music streaming platform, Spotify can be confusing for beginners when it comes to registration, device pairing, or account switching. This guide walks you through the entire process from scratch, including sign-up steps, multi-account switching tricks, and solutions for frequent error messages. All tips come from actual use—no fluff.
Sign-Up: Email or Phone Number?
Spotify offers two main registration methods: using an email address or linking directly with your Google/Apple account. We recommend email, since it won't be affected if you change your phone number later. Open the Spotify website or app, tap "Sign Up," enter your email and password, then select your gender and date of birth. Note: be accurate with your birthday—it's very hard to change later.
A common issue is not receiving the verification code. If you're on a domestic network, try a stable VPN node (Singapore or US) and also check your email spam folder. Still no code? Try a different email provider—Outlook tends to work better than QQmail.
Device Pairing & Account Linking
After registration, you can log into the same account on your phone, computer, tablet, or smart speaker. In the mobile app, tap the gear icon in the top-right corner to go to "Settings & Privacy," find the "Account" menu, and link Facebook, Google, or Apple ID. Once linked, just tap the corresponding icon next time to skip password entry.
Note: Each Spotify account can play on up to 3 devices simultaneously. You can remove unused devices anytime from the "Manage Devices" option in your account settings. If you see "Device limit reached," simply remove an old device—no need to resubscribe.
