OpenClaw is a handy tool platform, but many users find themselves confused when it comes to registering, linking third-party accounts, or switching between profiles. This article will guide you through these basic operations step by step, helping you avoid common pitfalls and get up to speed quickly.
1. Account Registration
Start by visiting the OpenClaw official site and clicking the "Register" button in the upper right corner. Email registration is supported — we recommend using Gmail or Outlook to avoid verification email filtering issues. After entering your username, password, and confirmation, the system will send a verification email. Click the link inside to activate your account. The whole process takes less than 3 minutes. If you don't see the email, remember to check your spam folder.
2. Linking Third-Party Accounts
After logging in, go to your personal settings page and find the "Link Account" option. OpenClaw supports linking with GitHub, Google, and other third-party services, making it easier to call APIs or sync data later. For example, click "Link" next to GitHub, you'll be redirected to an authorization page — confirm the permissions and it's done. After linking, you can check the status under "Linked Platforms". We recommend linking at least one third-party account as a backup login method.
3. Switching Accounts & Common Issues
To switch to another account, click your avatar in the upper right corner, select "Log Out", and then re-enter the new account credentials. Make sure to save any unfinished work before logging out. Common issues: "Link failed" is often caused by network restrictions — try enabling a proxy and retry. If registration shows "Username already taken", simply choose a slightly more unique nickname. If you encounter login errors, clearing your browser cache or switching to a different browser usually resolves the issue.
