On Tuesday, Anthropic's AI assistant Claude experienced a temporary service outage, with a large number of users reporting errors across its AI tools. The downtime impacted several components of the Claude ecosystem, including the web interface, API, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork. According to Anthropic's official status page, the company first acknowledged the issue before 1:30 PM ET and subsequently stated it was investigating abnormal errors across multiple models while working on a fix.
In a later update, Anthropic said it had implemented a fix and was monitoring the results, but a few models remained unstable. The outage not only affected regular chat users but also disrupted development teams relying on the API and Claude Code. According to Cybernews, Anthropic stated that Claude was back online after roughly two hours of downtime, while also investigating an unconfirmed rumor of a customer data breach. Bloomberg, meanwhile, linked the outage to an "unprecedented surge in demand" over the past week, with nearly 2,000 users reporting issues on Downdetector at peak times.
