Google is expanding its test of the Gemini overlay bubble feature. Previously, when users tapped outside the overlay, the Gemini interface would disappear entirely. Now, it collapses into a floating bubble marked by a bold spark icon. Tapping that bubble instantly brings back the conversation, making the AI assistant interaction more persistent and convenient. In the latest version, Google has also added a gradient color treatment to the bubble, matching the blue-purple gradient of the Gemini overlay for a cohesive visual identity. Additionally, some users now see a new "Minimize Gemini" button, offering another way to shrink the interface.
Beyond the bubble design, Google is testing a full-screen edge gradient animation. When the Gemini overlay opens or closes, a smooth gradient reminiscent of the Gemini branding lights up the four edges of the screen, replacing the previous four-point rotating animation. This design uses ambient color and edge focus to clearly signal state changes without distracting from the main screen content. The animation was spotted in Google app version 16.41.34 and is expected to be pushed via server-side switches.
