OpenClaw Guide: How to Register, Bind Devices, and Switch Accounts Easily

OpenClaw is a practical AI assistant tool, but many new users feel confused about registration, device binding, and account switching. This guide starts from scratch and walks you through the basic setup, helping you get started quickly without running into common issues.

1. How to Register an OpenClaw Account

Step 1: Go to the OpenClaw official website and click the "Register" button in the top-right corner. You can sign up using an email address, or log in directly with a Google or GitHub account — the latter is recommended for faster setup.

Step 2: If you choose email registration, enter a valid email address and set a password (suggested: at least 8 characters, including uppercase and lowercase letters and numbers). Then check your inbox for the verification email and click the link to activate your account. The whole process takes less than 3 minutes.

2. Device Binding and Account Authorization

After registration, log in and go to the "Device Management" page. OpenClaw allows you to bind multiple devices, but the free plan usually limits you to 3. Click "Add Device" and follow the prompts to install the client or browser extension to complete the binding.

It's recommended to enable two-factor authentication (2FA) after binding. Under "Security Settings," link your phone or an authenticator app to prevent account theft. If you need to switch devices later, remember to unbind the old device first before binding a new one.

3. Account Switching and Multi-Account Tips

OpenClaw supports quick account switching on the same device, which is handy for shared users. In the client, click your avatar and select "Switch Account," then enter the login credentials for another account. To avoid typing the password each time, you can enable "Remember on this device," but it's not recommended on public computers.

If you need to use different accounts simultaneously (e.g., a premium account and a free account), you can use an incognito window or a different browser. Additionally, OpenClaw's "Workspace" feature lets you switch between different configurations under the same account — ideal for different use cases.

4. Common Issues and Solutions

Some users report not receiving the verification email after registration. First, check your spam folder, or request a new verification email. If that doesn't work, try a different email domain (e.g., switch from QQ Mail to Gmail) or contact official support.

Account binding failure is usually due to reaching the device limit. Go to "Device Management" and remove unused old devices. If you get a "Login status abnormal" prompt when switching accounts, make sure your network is stable and avoid frequently changing IP addresses.
