Claude Troubleshooting: Fixes for Truncated Output, Failure to Generate, and Context Overflow

Claude

When using Claude for writing or organizing materials, the most frustrating part isn’t writing poorly—it’s when it suddenly “can’t generate,” keeps spinning without responding, or stops halfway through the output. This Claude troubleshooting guide is organized by real, high-frequency scenarios: first determine whether it’s a server-side issue, then address truncated output, failed sending, and upload errors one by one, so you can get back to using Claude normally as quickly as possible.

First, confirm whether it’s caused by Claude’s servers or queueing

When Claude keeps failing even after repeated retries, don’t rush to change settings—prioritize checking whether it’s due to server fluctuations or peak-time queueing. The most direct approach is to try a different network and a different browser once each: open Claude at the same time on mobile data and on your home broadband; the results can quickly show where the problem lies.

If multiple devices all show the same error or keep spinning, it’s usually not an issue isolated to your account. In this case, it’s better to wait a while and try again, and avoid refreshing the page frequently; for Claude, too many retries in a short period can actually make it more likely to trigger protective mechanisms.

Claude output gets cut off: start by checking for “context overflow”

If Claude stops halfway through an output, common causes include an overly long context, too much quoted material, or requesting a one-shot generation that exceeds limits. The fix is straightforward: split the goal into two or three parts, have Claude output in batches, and add “If unfinished, please continue” at the end of each part.

If you pasted a large amount of original text, tables, or long web pages, consider removing non-essential content and keeping only key paragraphs and heading structure. Another reliable method is to have Claude “draft an outline + confirm the structure” first, then write section by section following the outline—this makes truncation less likely.

Claude can’t generate or keeps spinning: practical browser and network fixes

If Claude shows “send failed” or stays stuck loading, check browser extensions and cache first. You can start by logging into Claude in an incognito window to test; if incognito works, it’s most likely caused by an extension, script blocking, or a cache issue.

Then do three things in order: disable ad blockers/script-related extensions, clear site cache and cookies, and log back into Claude. On the network side, try to avoid corporate proxies, public Wi‑Fi, or unstable cross-border routes; the success rate of the same prompt can vary significantly for Claude across different networks.

Claude upload failures or parsing anomalies: a “file checkup checklist”

If Claude fails to upload a file, don’t just stare at the button—first check whether the file is too large, encrypted, or uses an uncommon encoding. It’s recommended to save the document as a more universal format (such as PDF or DOCX), and rename the file to use only English letters/numbers before uploading, which can avoid many compatibility pitfalls.

If Claude can upload but the extracted content is garbled, it’s often due to scanned images, complex tables, or multi-column layouts. You can export the key pages as clear images or convert tables into simplified CSV, then have Claude parse them in segments; this is more stable than feeding in the entire document at once.
