If Claude suddenly throws an error mid-use, gets stuck, or won’t produce results, it’s usually not that “the model is broken,” but rather that network issues, session state, or usage limits have triggered restrictions. This article provides a Claude troubleshooting checklist for the most common scenarios—working through 429 rate limiting, expired login sessions, and file upload failures one by one. Follow these steps and you can usually restore normal conversation within a few minutes.

Start with basic Claude troubleshooting: refresh, clear cache, and extension conflicts

If you run into a blank page, unclickable buttons, or an endless loading spinner, first refresh the page and reopen the browser tab—this is the quickest Claude troubleshooting step. Next, clear cache and cookies related to claude.ai, then log in again; many “fake freezes” disappear immediately. If you have ad blockers, script managers, or privacy/anti-tracking extensions installed, try disabling them temporarily and retesting—extensions blocking authentication requests are a very common cause.

429 rate limit / too many requests: reduce frequency and shorten input

Keep filenames to English letters, numbers, and hyphens, avoiding special characters and overly long paths. If short messages work but long ones fail, the issue is usually input length, sending frequency, or the upload step; if short messages also fail, it’s likely the network, session, or server-side congestion. Gather the error message, steps to reproduce, and screenshots, then submit feedback via the Help Center—this is much easier to diagnose than simply saying “it doesn’t work.”
