Claude Troubleshooting Manual: Fixes for Stuck File Uploads, Parsing Failures, and Permission Prompts

If Claude can’t open a file, the upload keeps spinning, or a permission prompt suddenly pops up, don’t rush to reinstall your browser. This article troubleshoots Claude issues in the order of “symptom → cause → action,” prioritizing the most time-saving steps to pinpoint the problem first, then deciding whether you need to change networks or contact support.

Start with three quick checks to locate the issue and avoid wasted effort

When troubleshooting Claude, first check whether the error message contains keywords such as: upload, permission, network, rate limit—this can narrow the scope immediately. Then log in again using an incognito window to rule out cache and extension interference. Finally, retest with a different browser engine (switch between Chrome and Edge); many problems that “only happen on my computer” will show themselves right away.

File upload stuck or progress bar not moving: check size, format, and network first

The most common issue in Claude troubleshooting is an upload getting stuck: first confirm the file isn’t being used by another program, especially a cloud-drive file that’s syncing. Save the file to your local desktop and rename it to a short English filename before uploading, which can avoid some path and character issues. For the network, temporarily disable proxies/accelerators or switch to a mobile hotspot and try again—when the upload link is unstable, it’s easiest to get “spinning with no error.”

Parsing failed, blank content, or incomplete recognition: start with the file itself

When troubleshooting Claude, if you see “unable to parse” or “read failed,” first re-export the PDF (not “Save As”), or run OCR on scanned documents before uploading. For table-heavy content, switch to CSV/XLSX or export key pages as images and upload in segments to avoid parsing interruptions caused by overly dense information in a single file. If the same file fails repeatedly, using a cleaner version is usually faster than retrying over and over.

Permission prompts, unable to send, or repeated logins: most likely blocked by browser policies

If Claude troubleshooting turns up prompts like permission/blocked, check browser extensions first: ad blockers, script managers, and privacy anti-tracking tools are most likely to cause false positives. Restore the site’s third-party cookies and site permissions (pop-ups, clipboard, downloads) to default, then refresh the page and re-authorize. Corporate networks or security software may also block uploads and session requests; if needed, compare using a personal network to verify whether the issue is with the environment rather than the account.

Still not working: ask for help with “reproducible information” for maximum efficiency

The final step in Claude troubleshooting is to record complete information: the exact error text, the steps to reproduce, file type and size, browser version, and whether it reproduces in incognito. Provide a replaceable test file (without private data) whenever possible to reproduce the issue—this is far more likely to get an effective resolution than “it doesn’t work on my side.” If the problem is related to network region, clearly state your current network environment and whether you’ve tried switching routes/lines, which can also reduce back-and-forth communication.
