This tutorial explains how to log in to Claude, log out and switch accounts, and whether conversations sync after switching, along with common fixes for getting stuck.
1. First, confirm Claude’s login entry points and methods
Before using Claude, it’s recommended to access it only through official entry points to avoid login loops caused by third-party redirects. Common login methods on Claude Web include email verification links (magic link) and third-party sign-in (such as Google/Apple, depending on what the page shows).
If you manage multiple Claude accounts, try to standardize the login method for each account from the start—for example, use email for one account long-term and Google for another. Switching later will be smoother and you’ll be less likely to log into the wrong account.
2. Steps to correctly log out of Claude and switch accounts
Open the account menu in the top-right corner of the Claude page, choose Log out, then log back in with the target account—this is the most reliable way to switch. Don’t repeatedly click “Back” or refresh on the same page to change accounts, as that can easily lead to a state where Claude appears logged in but features don’t work.
An even easier approach is to assign different Claude accounts to different browser “profiles” (Chrome/Edge Profiles), or use one account in a regular window and another in an incognito window. This keeps Claude sessions, login state, and cookies from interfering with each other, so switching rarely requires repeatedly logging out.
