If, while using Claude, you suddenly find your chat history missing or it doesn’t sync across devices, it’s usually not because the content was “deleted,” but because loading failed due to account mix-ups, browser cache, or network policies. Below is a step-by-step checklist from the most common external causes to deeper ones, to help restore Claude’s history as quickly as possible.
First, confirm you’re logged into the same Claude account and using the same entry point
Claude chat history is tied to your account, and the easiest trap is “it looks like you’re logged in, but you actually switched accounts.” Please check whether the email/third-party login method is the same, and confirm you haven’t logged into different accounts in an incognito window or in different browsers.
If you have Claude open in multiple tabs at the same time, it’s recommended to keep only one tab and refresh it first, to avoid the history list being repeatedly overwritten by old cache within a short period.
Clear cache and cookies, and specifically check third-party cookie blocking
Claude web history loading relies on site data. If the cache is corrupted or cookies are abnormal, you may see a blank history or endless loading spinners. Try a hard refresh first; next, clear only Claude-related site data (cookies and cache), then log in again.
Also check whether your browser is blocking third-party cookies or has “strict anti-tracking” enabled. Some settings can make Claude’s login state and history APIs unstable; temporarily allowing site cookies usually restores syncing.
Check whether extensions or script blocking is causing a blank history list
Ad blockers, privacy tools, and script-management extensions may block the requests Claude uses to fetch history, showing up as the left-side history not displaying or spinning indefinitely. The quickest way to verify is to open Claude in incognito mode (which doesn’t load most extensions by default) and compare whether it works normally.
