Claude account switching and login guide: handling verification codes and multi-device login tips

Claude

This article focuses specifically on Claude login and account switching: from the registration entry and email verification-code login to using multiple devices at the same time and quickly switching accounts. Follow the steps below and you can basically avoid common pitfalls like repeated verification prompts, getting stuck on login, and accounts getting mixed up.

How to register for Claude and log in for the first time

After opening the Claude official website, choose the login method you use most often (email verification code or third-party account login). It’s recommended to keep using the same method for Claude going forward. After entering your email address, Claude will send a one-time verification code or a login link to your inbox. Follow the prompts to complete verification and you’ll be taken to the chat page.

After your first successful login, it’s recommended that you immediately confirm your email can reliably receive messages, and add the sender to your contacts or whitelist. That way, when Claude requires verification next time, the email is less likely to be misclassified as spam and you won’t miss the code.

Troubleshooting when you can’t receive a Claude verification code or verification fails

If you can’t receive the Claude verification code, first check the spam folder, promotions/subscriptions tab, and any corporate email blocking rules, and search for the email subject or sender domain. If it’s still not there, wait 1–2 minutes and then click “Resend.” Don’t trigger it repeatedly multiple times in a short period.

If the code is correct but you’re told verification failed, first try again after turning off your VPN/proxy, and log in to Claude using a different browser or an incognito/private window. You can also clear the site cookies and request a new code to avoid an old session causing a verification loop.

Practical methods for multi-device login and switching Claude accounts

Claude allows you to use the same account on multiple devices, but when switching between different accounts, the most reliable approach is to use different browser profiles (Chrome Profiles) or simply use different browsers to log in to Claude separately. This isolates cookies and avoids situations where you log in to Account A and then get bounced back to Account B.

For temporarily switching Claude accounts, an incognito/private window is also very useful: keep your primary account in the main window, and log in to the temporary account in an incognito window. When you’re done, just close it. If you find it keeps automatically returning to the old account, it means the browser is still retaining the login state—you need to log out on the Claude page before switching.

Claude account security settings and logout recommendations

Because Claude commonly uses email verification-code login, account security largely depends on the security of your email: enable two-factor authentication for your email, and avoid saving login sessions on public computers. When using Claude day to day, on public networks try not to select browser prompts related to “Remember me/auto-fill.”

When you’re no longer using it, it’s recommended to manually log out on the Claude page and clear the site cookies, especially on shared computers or temporary devices. If you need to change the login email or migrate the account, first check whether Claude account settings provide an entry point. If there’s no entry, it’s recommended to submit a request through the official support channel to avoid making changes yourself that could render the account unusable.
