Claude Web Troubleshooting Guide: Load Failures, Context Limit Exceeded, and Cache Fixes

Claude

When using Claude for writing or analysis, the most annoying thing isn’t a slow model response—it’s the page stuck spinning, failed sends, or a sudden “context limit exceeded” message. The troubleshooting checklist below is organized from “fastest to slowest”: first confirm service status, then handle browser and network issues, and finally look at content- and account-level problems. Follow it and you can usually narrow the issue down to a specific cause.

First, confirm whether Claude’s server is having fluctuations

If Claude can’t load or send messages across multiple devices and multiple networks, suspect a server-side issue first. You can open Anthropic’s status page (status.anthropic.com) to see whether there is an ongoing outage or degradation.

When the status page shows an incident, repeatedly refreshing only wastes time; it’s recommended to wait for recovery, or save important prompts locally first to avoid losing what you’ve typed.

Claude stuck loading: browser cache and extensions are the most common

If the Claude web app stays “loading” for a long time or shows a blank page, it’s often because cache, cookies, or scripts are being blocked. First, open Claude in an incognito window to verify whether it works: if it works in incognito, the issue is likely with local browser data or extensions.

The recommended order is: temporarily disable ad-blocking/privacy extensions → clear cookies and cache for the Claude site → switch browser engines (for example, test in a different browser). After that, log back into Claude; it usually returns to normal.

Send failed or endless spinner: narrow it down layer by layer from network to request payload

If Claude shows “Send failed,” “Something went wrong,” or the message keeps spinning, first switch networks (toggle between Wi‑Fi and cellular) and retry, then check whether a corporate proxy, gateway, or security software is blocking it. If everything else works on the same network and only Claude is abnormal, try changing DNS or rebooting the router to rule things out.

At the same time, “lighten” your input: remove extra-long quotes, avoid pasting huge blocks of text back-to-back, and don’t submit too many requirements at once. Claude is more likely to trigger request failures with an oversized single input; sending in segments is often more stable.

Context limit exceeded: use “summarize + split” instead of forcing it in

If Claude says the context limit is exceeded or it can’t continue generating, it means the current conversation has accumulated too much content. The most effective approach isn’t deleting the last chunk, but asking Claude to produce a key-point summary first, then starting a new chat and pasting “summary + goal” to continue.

If you must keep source material, keep only the key paragraphs and add a one-sentence note before each paragraph describing its purpose (for example, “for rebuttal” or “for data extraction”). This makes it easier for Claude to complete the same task within a shorter context.

Account and permission issues: from login state to risk-control prompts

If Claude repeatedly asks you to log in, redirects you back to the homepage, or shows permission-related messages, first confirm your browser isn’t blocking third-party cookies (some login flows are affected), and check whether your system time is correct. A large time drift can cause session validation to fail, leading to frequent logouts.

If you see an explicit restriction notice or can’t recover on your own, the most reliable approach is to submit a ticket through Claude’s in-app help entry, and include screenshots, reproduction steps, and browser version information; these details can significantly improve troubleshooting efficiency.
