Midjourney Discord Usage Tutorial: Joining Channels, Generating Images, and Parameter Settings

This is a Midjourney Discord usage tutorial that walks through the process in the order of “join a channel → send commands → adjust parameters → manage your work.” You don’t need to understand complicated operations—if you can type commands in Discord, you can get Midjourney running and generate images reliably.

Preparation and authorization before entering Midjourney

To use Midjourney, you need a Discord account that can log in normally, and you must ensure your network connection can connect to Discord stably. After joining the official Midjourney Discord server, first find a public generation channel in the channel list with “newbies” or “general” in its name. If your Midjourney account is not in an active/usable state, the bot may not respond to commands; in that case, you need to resolve your account status to usable before continuing.

How to correctly start a generation in Discord (/imagine)

In any channel where generation is allowed, type “/imagine,” enter your prompt in the pop-up prompt input box, and send it—Midjourney will start queuing the job. When it’s done, you’ll see a 2×2 grid of images and a set of buttons. U1–U4 upscale the image in the corresponding position, and V1–V4 create variations based on the corresponding image. If you want to rerun the same prompt style again, click “reroll” to have Midjourney run another round.

How to write common parameters: aspect ratio, stylization, randomness

Midjourney parameters are usually placed at the end of the prompt, separated by spaces—for example, “a cute cat --ar 3:2”. The most commonly used ones are “--ar” to set the aspect ratio, “--stylize” to control stylization strength, and “--chaos” to increase the degree of random variation. If you need reproducible results, add “--seed number.” If you don’t want a certain element to appear, use “--no element.” These are the most reliable ways to control outputs in Midjourney on Discord.

Move Midjourney from a public channel to your own private server

Public channels are noisy, so it’s recommended to add the Midjourney bot to your own Discord server and generate there. To do this, first create a new server in Discord, then add the Midjourney Bot via “Add Apps/Applications” (you need permission to manage that server in Discord). After that, you can use “/imagine” in your private channel as usual—Midjourney’s generation results, upscale buttons, and variation buttons will all display normally, and it’ll be easier to find your work.

Managing and downloading your work: avoid losing track of images

In Discord, for each Midjourney output message you can “Open original” and then right-click to save the image. For a clearer version, prioritize downloading the upscaled U images. To avoid not being able to find images after lots of messages, it’s recommended to add a project code or topic tag in the prompt each time before generating, so you can locate it via Discord search. If you use Midjourney across multiple devices, just stay logged into the same Discord account—your history will sync with the channels.
