ChatGPT User Guide: Registration/Login, Email Verification, and Account Switching Guide

This ChatGPT user guide covers only the three most common things: how to sign up, how to complete verification, and how to switch accounts across multiple devices. Many people get stuck because they “choose the wrong sign-in method,” “can’t receive the verification code,” or “get stuck in repeated redirects due to browser cache.” Follow the steps below and you should be able to get through the entire ChatGPT account flow smoothly in one go.

1. What to prepare before registering, and where to start

Open the official ChatGPT website (chatgpt.com). On the homepage, choose Sign up or Log in to enter the account flow. When registering, it’s recommended to use an email address you’ll keep long-term and that is stable, as it will make account recovery easier later. If you’re used to third-party accounts, you can also choose Google/Apple/Microsoft for one-click sign-in, but remember you’ll need to use the same method to access ChatGPT in the future.

2. Registration and login: email verification, and possible phone verification

If you register for ChatGPT with an email address, the system will usually send a verification email to your inbox. Open the email and follow the prompts to complete verification. If you don’t receive it, first check your spam/junk folder or promotions/subscription categories, then add the sender’s domain to your allowlist and try again. In some cases, ChatGPT may require additional verification (such as an SMS code). Whether this step appears depends on the account environment and risk controls—just follow the on-page instructions.

3. The correct way to log in on multiple devices and switch accounts

ChatGPT supports being logged in on both web and mobile at the same time, and chat history for the same account usually syncs across devices. When switching accounts, the most reliable method is to log out of the current account in ChatGPT first, then log in again with the target account. If you signed in with Google/Apple, you should also confirm which identity is currently selected in the corresponding third-party account when switching. If you keep getting redirected back to the login page, prioritize clearing browser cookies and cache, or log in to ChatGPT again using an incognito/private window.

4. Common issues: not receiving the verification code, “account already exists,” abnormal login

If you can’t receive the ChatGPT verification code, it’s usually due to email filtering, delays in the SMS channel, or an unstable network environment—try switching networks and then try again. If you see “account already exists,” don’t continue registering; instead, use the login entry to recover your password or use the same third-party sign-in method you previously chose to access ChatGPT. If you encounter frequent verification prompts, blank pages, or request errors, first disable browser extensions (especially ad-blocking and script-related ones), then refresh or switch browsers—this often restores normal use.
