ChatGPT has recently made “file uploading” much more convenient: you no longer need to download a spreadsheet to your computer first and then manually drag it into the chat box—you can now import files directly from Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive. For people who often use ChatGPT for data cleanup and report reviews, this small change can noticeably reduce the time spent switching back and forth.
What changes does ChatGPT’s direct cloud drive connection bring?
In the past, when using ChatGPT to analyze Excel, CSV, or presentation materials, the most troublesome part was file management: finding the file, downloading it, confirming the version, and then uploading it. Now that ChatGPT supports selecting files directly from cloud drives, it’s easier to keep versions aligned—especially for materials used collaboratively by multiple people on a team.
After importing, ChatGPT can not only read the spreadsheet content, but also filter, summarize, and compare it in the conversation according to your requests—and write the conclusions into paragraphs you can paste directly into an email or weekly report.
How to import files from Drive/OneDrive in ChatGPT
In the “Upload/Attachment” entry in the ChatGPT chat box, choose Google Drive or OneDrive, then follow the prompts to authorize and select the file. Once the file is in the chat, you can directly tell ChatGPT things like “list the meaning of each field first,” “create a pivot summary by region,” or “find anomalies and explain possible reasons.”
If you need charts, you can also ask ChatGPT to generate the chart types and definitions you need, and then export the charts for reporting (for example, comparison definitions for bar charts and line charts).
