Claude User Guide: Sign-up & Login, Linking Third-Party Accounts, and Quick Account Switching

Claude

This Claude user guide focuses on three things: how to sign up and log in, how to link a third-party account, and how to switch safely between multiple accounts. Follow the steps and you’ll avoid most issues like getting stuck at login and repeated verification.

Registering a Claude account: email login and basic verification

After opening the Claude official website, common sign-up methods are email login (receiving a verification link) or one-click login with a Google account. If you use email, it’s recommended to choose an email service with reliable delivery. After receiving the link, complete verification on the same device and in the same browser for a higher success rate.

If Claude prompts for additional verification (such as phone number verification or a security check), just follow the on-page instructions. After verification, you’ll be taken directly to the Claude chat page automatically—there’s no separate “activation” step.

Linking and switching to third-party login: Google is more convenient

If you initially registered with email and later want to switch to Google login, the usual approach is: first log in to Claude using your original method, then go to account settings and look for options related to “login methods/security” to see whether linking a third-party account is supported. If linking is available, once linked, logging in with Google next time will skip an extra email verification step.

For the same Claude account, it’s best to stick with one login method long-term. Switching back and forth between email one day and Google the next can easily trigger additional security checks.

Switching between multiple accounts: browser profiles and incognito windows are more stable

If you need to switch between two Claude accounts, the easiest method is to use your browser’s “user/profile” feature: each profile stores cookies and cache separately, so they won’t interfere with each other. If your browser doesn’t have profiles, you can log in to one account in a normal window and use the other account in an incognito/private window.

Frequent “log out → log in → log out” cycles are not recommended, especially when the network is unstable, as they can lead to repeated verification. If you must switch, log out properly within Claude first, then close the page and re-enter via the login page for a cleaner session.

Logout and security checks: reduce abnormal logins and repeated verification

After using Claude on a public computer or a temporary device, be sure to click log out in the account menu and clear browser cache and any saved login information. If you notice unusual login activity or more frequent verification prompts, first check whether you have ad blockers, script blockers, or privacy extensions enabled—they may interfere with Claude’s login redirects.

Finally, it’s recommended to strengthen the security of the email associated with your Claude account (for example, enabling two-factor authentication for your email), because Claude’s login verification typically relies on the email channel—email security is effectively Claude’s first line of defense.
