If Midjourney doesn’t generate anything, images don’t display, or you get a “no permission” message, it’s usually not because the “model is broken,” but because of issues with Discord commands, channel permissions, or client display settings. Below is Midjourney troubleshooting organized by the three most common scenarios—you can match your symptoms and apply the corresponding fix.
1) /imagine not responding: rule out command and bot status first
The first step in Midjourney troubleshooting is to confirm you’re sending commands in an “available channel”: enter a channel that has the Midjourney Bot, type “/” and see whether /imagine pops up. If even the command list doesn’t appear, Discord usually hasn’t loaded slash commands—restart Discord or switch networks and try again.
If you can send /imagine but the bot doesn’t respond, first check whether you accidentally muted, hidden, or blocked the Midjourney Bot. Search for “Midjourney Bot” in Discord and confirm it isn’t blocked. Then open the bot’s profile from the server member list to make sure it’s online and present in the current server.
2) Can’t see images in the channel: it’s usually display/filter settings making it “look like nothing was generated”
Many cases of “Midjourney generation failed” are actually just images not rendering. When troubleshooting Midjourney, check Discord settings first: User Settings → Text & Images, make sure “Display Images” is enabled, and don’t disable link previews (Embeds). If you’re on a corporate network or using a proxy, the image CDN may be blocked; testing with a mobile hotspot is the fastest way to verify.
Another common cause is that channel messages are being filtered out: check whether you’re viewing only “@mentions” or have keyword filtering enabled. Also confirm you haven’t muted the channel and hidden media content. The most reliable method is to click “Open original” on the message and see whether the image loads normally in a browser.
