Claude User Guide: Login Method Selection, Account Switching, and Security Settings

Claude

This article clearly explains Claude registration and login, account switching, and basic security settings all at once. Many issues people run into when using Claude—such as “account mix-ups,” “not receiving verification codes,” and “out-of-sync across devices”—are essentially related to login methods and session management. Follow the steps below and Claude will be more stable and secure.

1. Registration and Login: Choose the Right Claude Entry Point First

After opening the Claude official website (claude.ai), you can usually log in with email or with a third-party account (use whatever the page offers). If you log in with email, Claude will send a verification code or a login link to your inbox; enter it and you’ll be taken to the chat page. It’s recommended to prioritize a long-term, stable email address—logging into Claude on other devices later will be much easier.

If you don’t receive Claude’s email, first check the spam folder and the “Promotions/Subscriptions” category, then add the sender’s domain to your allowlist. If it still doesn’t show up, try again with a different email provider, and avoid repeatedly requesting codes too frequently to prevent triggering temporary risk controls.

2. Switching Claude Accounts: The Right Way to Avoid Account Mix-Ups

When switching Claude accounts in the same browser, the most reliable approach is to log out on the Claude page first, then start the login process again. Don’t just close the tab—otherwise the session may remain in the browser, and you may see a situation where “it looks like the account changed but the history didn’t.”

If you need to stay logged in to multiple Claude accounts at the same time, it’s recommended to use different browsers to log in separately, or use the browser’s Incognito/Private windows to isolate sessions. This way, each window’s Claude cookies won’t interfere with each other, making multi-account use much cleaner.

3. Using Claude on Multiple Devices: Sync Logic and Logging Out on Devices

Claude generally syncs chat history based on your account: conversations you create while logged in on a computer can usually be viewed later when you log in to the same account on a phone or another computer. To reduce security risks, after using Claude on a public computer, be sure to log out and close the browser—don’t just hit back or simply turn off the screen.

If you suspect your Claude account is still logged in elsewhere, first update the security settings of the linked email/third-party account (for example, change the password, enable two-factor authentication, etc.), then return to Claude and log in again. This way, even if Claude itself doesn’t provide a complex device list management feature, you can still cut off the risk at its source.

4. Claude Security and Privacy: Be Sure to Check Two Items in Settings

Go to Claude’s Settings page. It’s recommended that you review all privacy- and data-related options and follow the on-page prompts to choose whether to allow your data to be used for product improvement. The options shown may differ by account and region, but the underlying idea—“whether to share data to improve the product”—is consistent.

In addition, before uploading files to Claude or pasting sensitive content, first confirm whether it includes account credentials, contracts, personal information, etc. Even with the same Claude account, in team collaboration or shared-computer scenarios, it’s recommended to keep important information in local documents and have Claude process only the necessary excerpts.
