Claude FAQ: File Failures, Interrupted Outputs, and Rate-Limit Handling

Claude

When using Claude for writing, summarizing, or reading files, the most common snags are “can’t upload,” “it stopped mid-reply,” or “suddenly it says too many requests.” Below is a Claude FAQ that organizes high-frequency issues by scenario—following these checks usually fixes the problem on the spot.

1. What to do if Claude won’t open or keeps loading

First, open Claude in an incognito/private window to rule out a blank screen or stuck loading caused by browser extensions or script blockers. Then clear the site cache and cookies; many “after logging in it jumps back to the homepage” loops are actually caused by old-session conflicts.

If Claude won’t open only on your company network, first ask the network team to allow the relevant domains and WebSocket connections. Frequently switching the same account across multiple devices can also trigger risk controls; it’s recommended to stay logged in on your primary device for a while.

2. What to do if Claude attachment upload fails or can’t be parsed

The most common reasons for upload failure are incompatible formats, oversized files, or a corrupted file. You can try “Save As” to a more universal format, or convert a scanned PDF into copyable text before handing it to Claude.

If the parsing result is clearly wrong, don’t rush to re-upload the entire file—upload one or two pages (or key chapters) separately to verify first. For materials with lots of tables or screenshots, it’s recommended to add a brief note stating your goal—“extract data,” “summarize,” or “find supporting evidence points”—so Claude is less likely to go off track.

3. What to do if Claude’s answer is cut off or stops halfway—how to continue

If Claude’s output is interrupted, don’t immediately ask the whole question again. Just reply: “Continue from the unfinished sentence in the previous paragraph, and keep the same structure.” If you want it to be more reliable, add a clear ending requirement, such as “Write through the conclusion and provide a 3-item action list,” which makes it easier for Claude to wrap up properly.

When you stuff too much chat history or long files into Claude, context pressure increases, and the likelihood of missing information or broken sentences also rises. The approach is to compress the earlier content into key points (you can write 10 bullet points yourself) and have Claude continue based on those points, rather than carrying the entire conversation forward.

4. How to ease “too many requests” / “too frequent operations” in Claude

If you see “too many requests/please try again later,” it’s usually caused by rapid consecutive submissions, repeated attachment uploads, or running tasks in multiple tabs at once. Pause for 1–2 minutes and try again, close unnecessary tabs, and combine multiple small questions into a single submission—Claude will be more stable.

If you keep revising the prompt for the same question, consider sticking to a fixed template: clearly state the goal, inputs, output format, and prohibitions all at once. This both reduces retries and helps avoid triggering stricter limits due to frequent failures.

5. If Claude “refuses” or is overly conservative, how to ask more effectively

If Claude refuses, first check whether you used sensitive or high-risk wording. Rephrase your request as a “compliant alternative,” “popular-science explanation,” or “risk checklist and precautions,” and you’ll often get a usable answer. You can also ask Claude to answer only within the scope of the materials you provide, reducing its concerns about information sources.

If it’s normal work content but Claude misclassifies it, try adding context: purpose, audience, and constraints, and explicitly state “do not output personal privacy/do not generate illegal content.” Under compliance constraints, the more specific your requirements are, the more willing Claude will be to provide conclusions.
