Google recently announced a series of updates to its AI model Gemini to enhance its response capabilities in mental health conversations. This reflects the increasing application of AI in mental health support. When users ask related questions, Gemini can more effectively identify potential crises and provide immediate help, demonstrating tech companies' focus on social responsibility.
Specific updates include: when dialogue signals indicate that a user may be in an acute mental health situation, such as involving suicide or self-harm, Gemini will display a redesigned "Help is available" module and provide a "one-click" interface that directly connects users to hotline resources, supporting calls, chats, text messages, or website access. Google trains the Gemini model to encourage seeking help while avoiding validating harmful behaviors, and does not endorse or reinforce false beliefs, instead gently distinguishing subjective experiences from objective facts.
