Claude Account Registration & Account Switching Guide

Claude, the smart AI assistant from Anthropic, can be tricky for beginners when it comes to registration and account management. This guide walks you through email sign-up, phone verification, and multi-account switching — helping you avoid common mistakes.

Email Registration & Phone Verification

Visit the Claude website and click "Sign Up." Gmail or Outlook are recommended. After entering your email, you'll receive a six-digit verification code — check your spam folder if it doesn't appear. Next, you'll need a phone number for SMS verification. China mainland +86 numbers are supported, though some regions may be restricted. If you don't receive the code, try a different carrier or use a virtual number like TextNow (success rate ~70%).

Once verified, set a password with uppercase, lowercase, and numbers. Agree to the terms to enter the main interface. The whole process takes about 3 minutes — no credit card required.

Account Linking & Third-Party Login

Claude supports direct login via Google or Apple ID. Click the corresponding icon on the login page, authorize, and a new account is created automatically. Note: accounts created via third-party login are independent from email-registered accounts and cannot be merged. If you already registered with email, signing in with Google will create a second account.

Want to link an email for password recovery? Go to Settings, under "Account" click "Add email," enter your preferred email, and verify. This way, even if your third-party login fails, you can recover your account via email.

Multi-Account Switching & Precautions

Claude's official client doesn't have a built-in multi-account switch, but you can do it on your device: log out of the current account in your browser, clear cache, then log into another. For the mobile app, delete app data (Android) or reinstall (iOS) to switch. Be aware that switching accounts frequently from the same IP may trigger risk control — it's best to wait at least 10 minutes between switches.

For Pro users, the same account can be logged in on multiple devices simultaneously, with chat history synced in real time. If sharing a device with family, enable "Privacy Mode" to prevent others from seeing your chat history.
