The Ultimate Guide to Registering and Switching Claude Accounts – Step by Step for Beginners

Claude

Claude, one of today's most popular AI assistants, delivers impressive results in writing, coding, and everyday Q&A. Yet many newcomers run into small issues when registering, linking devices, or switching accounts. This tutorial starts from zero, guiding you step by step through Claude account registration, multi-device binding, and account switching — helping you get up and running quickly.

Registering a Claude Account: Email or Google

Currently, Claude supports registration via email or a Google account. Open the Claude website, click the "Get started" button. For email registration, enter a valid email address and set a password. The system will send a verification email — simply click the link to activate your account. To use Google login, it's even faster: one-click authorization completes the registration automatically.

Note: Claude is currently available in select regions. If you see "Not available," try switching your network environment or use an email address from a supported country. After registration, go to your personal settings to fill in your name and time zone for a smoother experience later.

Logging In & Multi-Device Binding: One Account, Multiple Devices

Your Claude account supports simultaneous login on desktop, mobile (iOS/Android), and browser extensions. On desktop, simply visit the official website and log in with your email and password. On mobile, download the official Claude app from the app store — after logging in, your chat history and settings will sync automatically.

No extra steps are needed when linking multiple devices. As long as you log in with the same account, all your data syncs in real time. For instance, if you ask a question on your computer, you'll still see the full conversation when you open the app on your phone. Remember to log out after using a shared or public device to protect your privacy.

Switching Accounts & Managing Multiple Logins: Family Sharing or Work Accounts

If you need to manage multiple Claude accounts (e.g., personal and work accounts), switching is simple: click your avatar in the top right, select "Sign out" to leave the current account, then log in with another one. Claude doesn't have a built-in quick-switch feature for multiple accounts, but you can log in to different accounts simultaneously using different browsers or incognito mode.

Additionally, Claude's family plan hasn't been launched yet, but switching between Pro and free plans can be done by downgrading in your subscription settings. If you're using a shared account that someone else set up, it's a good idea to change the password regularly and notify all members to avoid frequent disconnections. If you lose chat history after switching accounts, first double-check you're logged into the correct account, then confirm your network is stable.
