Spotify Money-Saving Tips: Student Discount & Family Plan for Cheap Subscription

Student Plan: Get Premium at Half Price

If you're a full-time enrolled student, Spotify's student plan is the most straightforward way to save. You get all the features of Premium Individual—ad-free listening, offline downloads, and high-quality audio—for just half the regular monthly price. To apply, you only need to verify your enrollment through SheerID. One verification lasts up to 12 months, and you can renew it when it expires.

Keep in mind that the student plan is usually available only to college or university students. Some regions also require you to link a local credit card or PayPal account. Before signing up, check if your location is supported to avoid verification failures due to payment method issues.

Family Plan: Share Costs for the Lowest Per-Person Rate

Spotify's Family Plan allows up to 6 separate accounts under one subscription. The monthly fee is only slightly higher than the Individual plan. When you split the cost with roommates or friends, each person pays less than a typical coffee drink. Note that all members must live at the same address, but Spotify doesn't strictly enforce this—just have the main account set a common address and other members agree when joining.

It's best to team up with people you trust to avoid frequent member changes that might trigger risk alerts. The Family Plan also includes Spotify Kids mode, which is especially useful for households with children, letting parents manage playback on kids' accounts separately.

Regional Subscriptions: Leverage Currency Differences

Spotify's subscription prices vary significantly across countries due to local pricing and exchange rates. For example, Premium in regions like Turkey or Argentina often costs far less than in Europe or the US. By using a virtual credit card or local gift cards, you can activate a long-term subscription at a very low cost. Once set up, your account works globally, and your content and features remain unaffected—only the payment currency changes.

However, this method has some hurdles: you need to register using a network from that region, and your payment method must support the local currency. Also, Spotify occasionally checks for unusual logins and may ask you to re-verify your region, so keeping the virtual credit card handy is wise. If you'd rather avoid the hassle, sticking with a family plan or student discount is more stable.
