According to reports, OpenAI is considering legal action against Apple over the delayed rollout of the ChatGPT and Siri integration deal reached in 2024. The company’s legal team, working with an external law firm, is studying a range of options that could be “formally executed in the near term,” including sending a breach of contract notice to Apple, though a full lawsuit is not immediately planned.
An unnamed OpenAI executive said the company “has fulfilled all product-level obligations,” while Apple has not delivered on its end. The executive also noted that Apple opening iPhone system access to other AI models is not the primary driver of this legal move, as the partnership was never exclusive from the start. According to Bloomberg, OpenAI believes that since ChatGPT was integrated into iOS 18 in 2024, Apple has made slow progress on the Siri side and failed to keep initial promises.
