Microsoft's gaming brand Xbox recently made a brand adjustment that has drawn widespread attention: its official social media accounts have formally changed their name and username from "Xbox" to the all-caps "XBOX." The move stems from a poll initiated by XBOX CEO Asha Sharma on X (formerly Twitter). On May 13, Sharma posted a simple question: "Xbox or XBOX?" The results showed that "XBOX" won by double the votes of "Xbox". Shortly after, Sharma quickly updated the official account name and username to the all-caps format, seemingly moving to formalize the change.
This brand shift has sparked sharply different reactions online. On X, many users expressed support or playfully cheered it on, while discussions on another platform, Bluesky, were much harsher—numerous users openly mocked the all-caps naming. Some commenters noted that competitors in the gaming industry, such as PS5 and NSW, commonly use uppercase abbreviations, whereas Xbox's long-standing lowercase-first style had become a distinctive identifier—making the sudden switch feel abrupt. As of now, Microsoft has not issued an official brand update announcement, but the social media account changes have been confirmed.
