According to a report from Bloomberg via 9to5Mac, OpenAI is considering legal action against Apple after the ChatGPT-Siri integration deal, announced as part of iOS 18 in 2024, has not advanced as expected. The report indicates that OpenAI's legal team, in collaboration with external law firms, is evaluating "multiple options that could be formally pursued in the near future," which may include sending a breach of notice to Apple rather than immediately filing a full lawsuit.
An anonymous OpenAI executive told Bloomberg that the company "has done everything possible at the product level," yet Apple has not fulfilled its commitments under the partnership. Notably, the executive emphasized that Apple opening up iPhone access to other AI models is not the reason for potential legal action, as the deal was never exclusive from the start. Neither party has issued an official statement on the matter, but OpenAI's moves signal escalating tensions with Apple.
