Recently, Xbox officially changed its brand name to the all-caps "XBOX", a seemingly small move that has stirred up discussions across social platforms. According to tech outlet Kotaku, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma launched a poll on X on May 13, asking users whether they preferred "Xbox" or "XBOX." The all-caps version won by double the votes, and Sharma subsequently changed the official account name and username to "XBOX." The decision came without any major prior announcement, catching many gamers by surprise.
On X (formerly Twitter), some users supported the change, arguing that all caps offers better recognition and impact. However, on other social networks like Bluesky, the rebranding was met with mockery and criticism, with many questioning why the company would make such a seemingly pointless alteration. Notably, Microsoft has not released any official press statement, nor has the "XBOX" name been updated on Xbox's main website or hardware—the change currently only appears on social media accounts.
