Free Users Can Now Search & Play + Tesla In-Car Upgrade
In the past, free users could only shuffle playlists. Now Spotify introduces “Pick and Play” and “Search and Play”—free users can directly search for any song and play it in full, no longer limited to passive recommendations. At the same time, after a Tesla over-the-air update, the free version of Spotify can be logged into directly in the car, allowing drivers to pick any song on the go—making music much more convenient during commutes.
AI Playlists & Personalized Year-Round Recap
The new AI Playlist feature automatically generates playlists based on your mood or activity, saving you the hassle of manual curation. Meanwhile, “My Spotify” acts like a mini annual recap—showing your top artists, genres, and play counts in real time—so you can review your listening habits mid-year without waiting for December’s wrap-up.
Music Videos & Desktop Mini Player
Spotify has begun testing an official music video feature, available in 97 markets. Users can watch music videos directly inside the app by switching to video mode from the “Now Playing” screen. Additionally, the desktop version now includes a mini player—when you shrink the window, playback controls and album art remain visible, making it easy to listen while working.
