According to a report from The Information, Elon Musk’s AI company SpaceXAI is experiencing a significant talent drain. Since SpaceX acquired xAI and began a company restructuring in February this year, more than 50 top researchers and engineers have departed, including core specialists responsible for programming, world models, and the Grok voice system. The news has raised external concerns about the company’s future AI model competitiveness.
The report notes that most departing employees have joined rival teams, with at least 11 moving to Meta and another 7 joining Thinking Machine Labs, founded by former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati. Insiders say employees are frustrated by rushed decisions that prioritize speed over quality in Grok model development, while SpaceX’s stock options and financial returns have also provided practical reasons for leaving. After the acquisition closed in February, the company appointed a new management team and officially rebranded as SpaceXAI this month.
