On May 19, 2026, Toronto time, CallCow – an AI-powered phone answering and virtual front desk platform for small businesses – officially launched a developer guide and introduced the community-built OpenClaw skill. This skill enables AI agents to make direct phone calls using a single natural language prompt, a breakthrough that overcomes the prior limitation of AI agents operating solely through text-based channels. Starting today, developers can access the skill at docs.callcow.ai/agent-calling.

Called "agent-call," this skill is built on CallCow's Prompt-to-Call API. It automatically generates call workflows, delivers natural-sounding speech powered by GPT 5.4, and returns structured results – including call transcripts, summaries, and collected data – to a callback URL. The API allows any AI voice agent to place real phone calls without needing to set up phone infrastructure. The skill also supports both inbound and outbound calls, and integrates with popular tools such as Google Calendar, Outlook, Calendly, Cal.com, HubSpot, Make.com, and Monday.com.

This innovation from CallCow fills a critical gap in the OpenClaw framework for telephony. Previously, developers needed complex phone configurations to enable voice calls. The new skill raises the rate limit to 60 requests per minute per organization and provides detailed guidance on prompt writing, callback handling, and status tracking. For developers, this means they can focus on building efficient AI solutions without deep telephone system knowledge, further lowering the barrier to entry for AI voice applications.

Looking ahead: With the integration of the Prompt-to-Call API and the OpenClaw ecosystem, AI agents will truly achieve seamless "text-voice" dual-channel switching. In the future, small businesses may use this skill to build fully automated phone reception, appointment confirmation, and customer callback systems – making AI voice agents a standard tool for business communication.
