OPenClaw is a tool integrated with an AI voice agent that enables one-click phone calls and task scheduling through natural language. Many beginners encounter obstacles during registration and device binding. This tutorial walks you through the entire process, including account creation, device pairing, and the practical steps for your first voice call.
Step 1: Register and Create Your Account
Open the OPenClaw official website or App, and click "Sign Up" to enter the registration page. Use a common email address (Gmail or Outlook is recommended) to avoid verification email delays caused by anti-spam filters on some providers like QQ Mail. When setting a password, include at least 8 characters, one uppercase letter, and one number. After submitting, check your inbox for the verification link and click it to activate your account.
If you see the message "This email is already registered," simply use the "Forgot Password" option to reset your credentials instead of creating a new account. OPenClaw currently does not support third-party login; all operations rely on email verification.
Step 2: Device Binding and Authorization
After logging in, go to the "Device Management" page and click "Add Device." Follow the system prompts to download and install the corresponding desktop or mobile client. When you open the client, a six-digit pairing code will be generated automatically. Enter this code on the web page to complete the binding. Note: A single OPenClaw account can bind up to 5 devices, but the voice call function is only available on the primary device.
If you need to switch to a different device, first log out on the old device, then bind a new pairing code on the new device. Otherwise, you will see the error "Device limit reached." This design prevents account misuse, but the switching process is straightforward.
Step 3: First Voice Call Setup
Once binding is successful, go to "Voice Settings" and enable the "Allow Voice Calls" permission. OPenClaw will request microphone and network access—be sure to grant them. Next, in the "Contact Book," you can import your phone contacts or manually add contacts. Enter the international code plus the phone number (e.g., +86 138xxxxxxxx), save it, and you can initiate a call using voice commands.
Pro tip: To test call quality, dial the official OPenClaw test number (found in the help page). It will play a recorded message, helping you confirm network latency and volume levels. If you encounter a "No response" error, it is usually due to a firewall blocking UDP ports. To fix this, allow UDP traffic in your router or security software settings.
Common Issues and Troubleshooting
Many users report being unable to start a call after registration. First, check your network environment: OPenClaw requires a specific NAT type on Wi-Fi—preferably "Type 1" or "Type 2" (check this in your router's settings). Next, verify that the microphone permission is not disabled by your system. On macOS, go to "System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Microphone" and enable OPenClaw; on Windows, navigate to "Settings > Privacy > Microphone" and turn it on. If everything above is in order, try logging out and then logging back in—most temporary issues will resolve automatically.
