Claude's conversation history management feature allows you to easily review, organize, and export your AI chat records. This tutorial explains how to view past conversations, delete or archive old records, and export conversations as text files — helping you efficiently manage your Claude usage trail.
Viewing and Searching Past Conversations
After logging into the Claude web app or desktop client, click the "Conversation History" icon in the left sidebar to see all saved conversations. Each conversation displays the start time, a title summary, and the time of the last reply, making it easy to quickly locate the right one.
If you have many conversations, use the search bar at the top to enter keywords (e.g., "coding," "writing"). Claude will automatically filter conversations containing those terms. You can also filter by date range or tags (if you've manually added them) to narrow down your results further.
Deleting, Archiving, and Renaming Conversations
Hover over a conversation and click the "More" button (three dots). From there, you can choose "Delete" or "Rename." Deletion is irreversible, so make sure you no longer need the record before proceeding.
Claude does not have a built-in archive feature at this time, but you can manually mark conversations for archiving by adding a prefix like "[Archive]" to the title during renaming. Regularly clearing out unneeded conversations helps keep your sidebar tidy and can improve loading performance.
