AI company Anthropic has announced the research preview of its new product, Claude Tag. Described as an "always-on Claude," it is embedded directly into the Slack collaboration platform, acting as an AI teammate. Users can @Claude in chat to gain insights and assign tasks, moving beyond the previous support for only one-on-one direct messages or on-demand queries within channels. Claude Tag means that everyone in a Slack channel can access the same Claude identity and view Claude's work progress at any time, picking up conversations where the previous person left off.
On the enterprise side, system administrators can precisely specify which tools, information, and channels Claude can access. Each Claude identity is strictly confined to the channels defined by the admin—for example, a Claude set up for legal work will not have its memory spread to engineering channels. Additionally, the Claude Code feature can route coding tasks mentioned in a channel directly to a full programming session on the web, then post updates back to the Slack thread. Currently, Claude Tag is available to Claude Enterprise and Claude Team customers as a research preview for testing.
