OpenClaw Common Issues & Fixes: Subscription Failures, Account Locks, and Error Codes Explained

When using OpenClaw, you may run into various issues — from failed subscription payments to sudden account locks or frequent request error pop-ups. Don't panic. This article covers the most common problems and their solutions to help you get back up and running fast.

Subscription Failure Troubleshooting

The most common reason for a failed subscription is an unsupported payment method or insufficient balance. We recommend using an international credit card (Visa/Mastercard) or PayPal first. If that doesn't work, check if your card has overseas payment enabled — some banks block international transactions by default. A quick call to your bank's customer service can remove the restriction.

Another often overlooked factor is your network environment. OpenClaw has strict IP requirements. Frequently switching nodes or using a shared/unclean proxy can trigger risk control. Try sticking to a stable, clean residential IP, and turn off any VPN before initiating the subscription again. If you see a "card declined" message, try a different card or contact support with your transaction ID.

Account Lockouts & How to Unlock

Account locks usually happen after multiple incorrect password attempts, logins from unusual locations, or detection of suspicious activity. If you're locked out, don't keep trying — the system will automatically unlock within 15–30 minutes. If you're still unable to log in after an hour, use the verification link sent to your registered email to reset access.

If you suspect your account has been compromised, change your password immediately and enable two-step verification. Note: OpenClaw will never ask you for your password or verification code — any message requesting this information is a scam. For permanent bans, submit a ticket through the official support channel. Attaching purchase receipts and identification details will speed up the process.

Request Errors & Error Codes

The most common request errors are "429 Too Many Requests" and "500 Internal Server Error." The first means you've sent too many requests in a short period — just pause for a few minutes. The latter is usually a temporary server glitch; refresh the page or try a different browser.

If you encounter "401 Unauthorized," your login credentials have expired or become invalid — simply log out and log back in. If the issue persists, clear your browser cache and cookies, or try using incognito mode. For "404 Not Found," double-check that the URL you entered is complete, then navigate again.

The methods above cover over 90% of common OpenClaw issues. If you've tried everything and it's still not working, visit the official help center directly or email a detailed screenshot along with a description of your steps. Human support typically responds within 24 hours. To minimize future errors, keep your software updated regularly and maintain a stable network connection.
