Anthropic Launches Claude Tag: Your Always-On AI Teammate Inside Slack

Anthropic recently announced the research preview of Claude Tag, an "always-on" Claude AI that integrates directly into Slack and functions as a genuine team member. Users can mention @Claude in channels to gain insights, assign tasks, or send direct messages for immediate assistance. This feature is currently available for Claude Enterprise and Claude Team customers, accessible entirely within Slack.

Unlike existing single-turn Q&A, Claude Tag enables unified identity and shared context. All members of the same Slack channel can interact with the same Claude identity, meaning "anyone can see what Claude is working on and pick up where the previous conversation left off." System administrators can precisely define which tools, information, and channels Claude can access—for example, a Claude configured for the legal team will not "remember" content from engineering channels, ensuring cross-departmental data isolation.

Additionally, Claude Code in Slack allows coding tasks within a channel to be seamlessly transformed into a full programming session on the web, with updates fed back into the conversation thread. This set of features elevates Claude from an "on-demand assistant" to an AI teammate with long-term memory and collaboration capabilities, promising to significantly improve asynchronous teamwork for enterprise teams.

Looking ahead, Claude Tag signals a shift in AI collaboration tools from "point-to-point Q&A" toward "team-level intelligent agents." If organizations can properly balance data permissions with collaborative openness, such persistent AI teammates could become a standard part of Slack workflows.
