On June 23, Anthropic announced the research preview of Claude Tag, a new feature that deeply embeds the AI assistant into Slack collaboration. Described as an "always-on Claude," it stays in designated channels like a real team member. Users simply type @Claude to get insights, assign tasks, or launch workflows directly in chat. This feature is available to Claude Enterprise and Claude Team customers, marking a major evolution from Claude's previous direct-message and on-demand assistance in Slack.
Unlike earlier AI interactions, Claude Tag allows multiple users to share a single Claude identity. Within the same channel, all members can see Claude's previous work and pick up tasks from where a colleague left off, enabling seamless team collaboration. System administrators can also finely define which tools, data sources, and channels Claude can access. For example, a Claude identity configured for legal affairs remains restricted to the legal channel and won't bring legal-related memory into engineering channels. Additionally, Claude Code can automatically route coding tasks from the channel to a full programming session on the web, then return updates to the Slack thread, creating an end-to-end loop.
