OpenClaw Error Troubleshooting Guide: Common Error Codes & Fixes You Need to Know

OpenClaw

Encountering an error code, subscription failure, or account lock while using OpenClaw? Don’t panic. This guide covers the most common errors and their solutions to help you quickly get back to normal.

Subscription Failed: Error 3012 & 403

If you see “Error 3012: Payment declined” or “403: Forbidden” in the OpenClaw pop-up, the issue is usually related to your payment method. First, check if the card you’ve added is a domestic UnionPay card (some channels don’t support it); try switching to a Visa or Mastercard instead. Make sure the billing address matches the address registered with your card, otherwise the system’s risk control may block the subscription. If it still doesn’t work after several attempts, wait 24 hours before trying again — and avoid tapping the subscribe button repeatedly in the meantime.

Login Error E5001: Request Failed

If OpenClaw shows “E5001: Request failed” when you start it, it’s usually due to an unstable network connection or server overload. Start by switching networks (e.g., from Wi-Fi to mobile data), then clear the client cache. Go to the settings page, find the “Clear local data” option, restart the app, and log in again. If the problem persists, check the official status page to see if the server is under maintenance — it usually recovers automatically once maintenance ends.

Account Locked: Security Verification & Unlock Process

After an unusual login attempt or switching between IPs in different regions too quickly, OpenClaw may automatically lock your account, showing “Your account has been locked for security reasons.” In this case, you’ll need to receive a verification code via your registered email to unlock it. You should get an email containing a link — click it and follow the prompts to verify your device. It’s best to do this on a device you use regularly. If you don’t see the email, check your spam folder, or contact customer support with your account details for a manual review.

For other error codes like “Ratelimit exceeded” or “API Key invalid,” they’re usually caused by making too many requests too quickly or an expired API key. Just pause for a few minutes and try again, or regenerate the key. With these basic troubleshooting steps, you can resolve most common errors on your own.
